Lot 272 - 1972 Porsche 911S
|Estimate||£40,000 - £50,000|
|Result||Sold - £74,480|
The original Porsche 911 with itsfamous, distinctive and durable design was introduced in the autumn of 1963 and built until 1989. Mechanically, it was notable for being rear-engined and air-cooled. From its inception, the 911 was modified both by private racing teams and the Porsche factory itself for racing, rallying and other competition. The original 911 series is often cited as the most successful sports/racing car ever, especially when its variations are included; namely the powerful 911-derived 935 which won Le Mans as well as other major sports cars races. In 1967 Porsche introduced the 911T model and subsequently a 911E version, however, the 911S was the most desirable and with only 3,174 Porsche 911S's manufactured, good quality surviving examples are rare and highly desirable.
Originally registered on 21st November 1972 this Porsche 911S been owned by the vendor for the last 11 years. The 2341cc engine benefits from having had a top end rebuild and the car has had a new exhaust system fitted recently. We are advised by the vendor there is no known faults on NYT 37L and she drives well. Supplied with a V5 registration document and a full year's MoT test certificate, together with a comprehensive history file dating back to 1972. Prices of Porsche 911's have increased of late, this 911S is certainly one of the more sought after examples.
