The Batmobile is Batman's primary mode of transportation and one of the most formidable components in his vast arsenal. Affectionately dubbed the 'Keaton-mobile' after Michael Keaton; the actor playing Batman/Bruce Wayne in the films at the time, the car's popularity with fans has established a strong following. It has been used as a basis for several comic book cars (as well as itself making various cameos in the comics), as inspiration for the Batman: The Animated Series car, served as a spokes-model for 'OnStar' in 1999 and easily ranks with the 1966 Batmobile as one of the most popular Batmobiles of all time. The original car was built on a Chevrolet Impala chassis with a Chevrolet V8 engine. All the gadgets (aside from the Cocoon-mode) on the Keaton-mobile in both movies were fully functional although the exhaust after-burner could only be run for 15 seconds at a time due to the amount of fuel it consumed. It is an electronic wizard that is filled with gadgets, electronics, computers and calculators. The original is voice-controlled with an interior that features contoured seats, aircraft instrumentation and a weapon system that includes two Browning submachine guns. A Jet turbine engine delivers 1,5000lbs. of thrust which powers this sensational creation from 0 to 60mph in less than 3.7 seconds. It was created to be the ultimate in automotive styling, engineering and design with everything on this supercar handcrafted with all the latest in space-age materials, alloys and parts.
This extremely well conceived tribute to the 1989 Michael Keaton Batmobile was made for promotional purposes and has been displayed at many exhibitions and motor shows. It comes complete on a bespoke chassis and powered by a straight six, fuel injected modern Jaguar 3.2 litre engine with automatic transmission. Special crime fighting gadgets include a fully operational flame thrower at the rear, hydraulic suspension enabling the car to be lifted a further nine inches off the ground, a smoke release mechanism, remote full releasing electronic canopy, remote ignition and full LED running lights, dashboard display and front and rear camera's complete the specification. This vehicle is believed to be one of the best after-production, fully road-legal models ever made. The mileage is particularly low as it has mainly been transported from venue to venue and is described by the vendor as in excellent running order.
'Undoubtedly one of the most striking vehicles on the planet, this would be the ultimate purchase for any private collector - and don't forget, chicks love the car!'
