Lot 226 - 1975 Alfa Romeo 1600 GT Junior
|Odometer reading||78,900 miles|
|Result||Sold - £13,440|
The Alfa Romeo 105 series coupé was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro of Bertone and was considered to be one of his greatest designs. Not only as one of the best looking and handling classic saloon cars of the period, but the advanced specification with its 5-speed gearbox, all round disc brakes, independent suspension and powerful twin cam engine still has the capability to embarrass many of its modern counterparts.
A restoration has recently been completed by the vendor upon the 1975 Alfa Romeo 1600 GT Junior offered today. The aim was to create a car with the vendor's personal touch. Bodily, the car was stripped, the four wings repaired, new door skins, four packing points and three piece sills, either side, were replaced. The vendor finds the standard fuel filler cap a particularly ugly detail on the car so this was disposed of and a quick release Monza style fuel filler added to the upper side of the near side rear wing. The coachwork was finished with two pack, clear over base Ferrari Rosso paint. To finish externally, new front and rear bumpers were fitted, the Tudor Webasto fabric sliding sunroof was recovered and the Capagnolo alloy wheels (x four retained with the car and fitted with new Dunlop SP Sport tyres) were replaced with five Peugeot alloy wheels, shod with new Mowhawk tyres to further fill the wheel arches and enhance the lines of the Bertone styling. Mechanically, the original 1600cc engine was replaced with the larger 2000cc unit and a Kenlow radiator fan added to aid cooling. Whilst the engines were being swapped, a new clutch assembly was added and the gearbox overhauled with new synchromesh rings. The interior is in good order and left as standard.
This is a genuine right hand drive UK registered Alfa Romeo with a current MoT test certificate valid until March 2014. The vendor has stated that the car will arrive at the sale with valid road fund licence.
These attractive Bertone coupés are as popular as ever and with this handsome example being offered with some distinguishing personal touches, we feel that it represents excellent value considering its modest estimate.
**Contrary to the catalogue description:
The bumpers have arrived with the car, however, we would say they are good used items rather than new.
Also; on arrival, the spare wheel tyres appear to have excellent tread, however, we would say that they are somewhat older than new.
