Lot 265 - 1965 13079 Tiger
|Estimate||£22,000 - £28,000|
|Result||Sold - £27,440|
Inspired by the AC Cobra, that was effectively the British AC
Ace sports car powered by the large American Ford 4.2 litre V8; the
Sunbeam Tiger first saw the light of day in 1964. Based upon
the Routes Group, somewhat pedestrian, Sunbeam Alpine, the Tiger
with the Ford power plant slotted into the engine bay, became what
is surely one of motoring's true 'wolf in sheep's clothing'.
Precise handling was retained by keeping the Alpine's rack and
pinion steering with knock out performance due not only to the
muscle V8 but also due to the lightweight Alpine shell.
We are proud to offer this Mk. I Sunbeam Tiger presented in dark blue with a black interior. The Tiger benefited from restoration works in 2008 that including a bare metal re-spray. However, this particular Tiger is a past Classic Marathon competitor, and has most recently won the 2008 Classic Safari Challenge in the Classic Pre-1966 Category. It must be stated that to achieve this win the preparation of this Tiger for this rally was extensive resulting in the car still seeing the benefits today, as on a recent test the car felt strong and tight with excellent oil pressure and normal temperature readings. Preparation for the 4000 mile rally Safari Challenge included mechanical refurbishment by a marque specialist with verification by the invoices on file. Modifications were carried out that included, Ridgard seats with full harnesses, a long-range fuel tank, twin fuel pumps, sump guard, roll cage, adjustable shock absorbers, and 3.2:1 ratio limited-slip differential. Other noteworthy features include a steel hardtop, tonneau cover and Minator alloy wheels shod with Yokohama tyres with an unused matching alloy spare wheel and tyre. The file also includes a UK V5 registration document, RAC MSA documentation, FIVA passport and expired MOT's dating back to 1989. A recent service has been carried out and this Tiger has a valid MoT test certificate, valid until July 2014 with Historic status road fund licence valid until the end of March 2014.
Whether you wish to rally or tour, with the Sunbeam Tiger heading toward its 50th anniversary in 2014, what better way so enjoy the celebrations with this well sorted example, especially given its very tempting estimate.
