|Estimate||£3,200 - £3,600|
|Result||Sold - £4,144|
Moto Guzzi's café racer was first manufactured in 1976 and known as the 850 Le Mans; it soon became a hit, competing with other Italian super bikes. The Mk. II was essentially the same as the Mk. I but with a larger more angular fairing; very much in keeping with the fashion of the period.
The machine on offer today has been modified with a small fairing to make it look like the sleeker Mk. I. The vendor states; "in 2012, the 850 Le Mans had a winter service including a sump off inspection, whereby the engine was found to be in excellent order. The machine starts first time with no evidence of smoke whilst hot or cold. It also completed a 1,000 mile trip, an epic ride, keeping up with modern super bikes without missing a beat." The vendor adds; "the Moto Guzzi has proved reliable and comfortable in my ownership and it certainly attracts a lot interest wherever it goes and particularly at a recent visit to an 'Ace Cafe' bike event where it was invited to take pride of place amongst its peers". We are advised by the vendor that a replacement odometer has recently stopped working and the actual mileage of the bike is about 35,000. This Le Mans also comes supplied with a recent MoT test certificate and service, a cover and an Oxford Optimiser battery conditioner. With an intoxicating exhaust note, the collector can enjoy the open road and those café meets this summer.
