Lot 222 - 1974 Benelli Volcano
|Odometer reading||3 miles|
|Estimate||£1,300 - £1,700|
Benelli was established in Pesaro, Italy in 1911, which possibly makes it the oldest of all European motorcycle factories in operation. Due to Wartime destruction Benelli ceased production until 1949 then unsold war motorcycles to be used by the Italian army were adapted to become civil motorcycles and generate income to restart operations. The Benelli Volcano is a three-speed two-stroke 180cc minibike made in Italy during the early 1970s. Only 200 were ever produced, all of which were imported to the United States by Cosmopolitan Motors. The Volcano was the most powerful minibike made by Benelli and had a top speed of 56mph.
This Benelli finished in red has recorded just three miles and unused from new having been kept in a private collection for its entire life. The current owner describes this as not running, purely as he has never tried, this may change prior to auction day. Having the largest capacity engine of all mini (Monkey) bikes built worldwide, these are very rare and sought after so this is certainly an unusual an opportunity to obtain a low mileage collectable example.
