Lot 253 - 1949 Vincent HRD Rapide to Lightning Specification
|Odometer reading||67,069 miles|
|Estimate||£110,000 - £130,000|
Many years of research and restoration of this beautiful Vincent, presented in lightning format, has resulted in the HRD we see today. This unassuming bike benefits from many improvements including a 12V conversion, and an uprated clutch assembly. After restoring the bike the previous owner rode it for 20,000 miles touring the United Kingdom. At the time the engine was painted black and it was called the black lightning. Having returned from his tour the bike was stripped again for signs of wear but the engine was so well assembled and balanced there were no signs of any wear at all. At this point the owner stripped the black paint in favour of silver; hence the current silver lightning look. Having covered no more than 300 miles since, this Vincent is an aesthetically pleasing motorcycle whose stunning looks are fully appreciated by the current owner, a private collector. A full and exhaustive photographic record of the restoration of the bike is supplied within the history file.
