Lot 390 - 1926 Dodge 116 Open Tourer
|Odometer reading||81,575 miles|
|Result||Sold - £5,824|
Founded as the Dodge Brothers Company in 1900 to supply parts and assemblies for Detroit's growing car industry, Dodge began making its own complete vehicles in 1915. They continued as a family business for many years occupying a place in the top five motorcar builders in the US, a heavily contended position. Family death and misfortune eventually saw the company sold to Chrysler.
This rare example of one of the Dodge Brothers popular models appears to have been repainted some time ago from its original green to yellow with contrasting black wings. It has clearly been stored for some time as the overall condition, whilst sound, appears to lack some of the basic tlc this car requires. The artillery wheels are in solid condition although would certainly benefit from reconditioning, as would the chrome radiator. The original Calorimeter can still be found atop the radiator - although, as this example was not running at the time of writing, it is not possible to confirm its functionality. An attractive project for those fans of vintage Americana.
