The first Porsche 911 was introduced in 1963 as the replacement for the much loved Porsche 356. It has a distinctive design; rear-engined and with independent rear suspension, an evolution of the swing axle on the Porsche 356. The engine was also air-cooled until the introduction of the Type 996 in 1998. Since its introduction in 1963, it has undergone continual development although the basic concept has remained little changed. In 1973, the Carrera name was re-introduced from the 356 Carrera which had itself been named after Porsche's class victories in the Carrera Panamericana races in Mexico in the 1950's. The RS was built so that Porsche could enter racing formulae which demanded that a certain minimum number of production cars were made. The most notable advances in 1984 were the introduction of the 3.2-litre engine. With 231bhp on tap, the new 'boxer' motor endowed the Carrera with a level of performance approaching that of the original 911 Turbo of 1974; the bald statistics being a 0-60mph time of 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 152mph.

This beautifully presented and rare righthand drive Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet was supplied new in the UK in August 1989.  The car is fitted with an RS body kit and is painted in Guards Red with stone seats piped in red and red carpets and is also fitted with the more desirable G50, five speed manual gearbox.  This Porsche comes supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate valid until February 2014, a file containing old invoices and MoT test certificates going back to 1997, the original Porsche handbook and the service book showing the service history up to 2004, all of which substantiate the speedometer reading of just under 59,000 which the vendor believes to be correct.  With the soft top offering open air motoring and with Porsche reputation for reliability, this is a rare opportunity to buy a low mileage, practical classic which has been much loved throughout its life.
