Although having a family resemblance to the XK120 and XK140, the XK150 was radically modernised. A one piece windscreen replaced the split screen and the wing line no longer dropped as much over the doors. The bonnet was widened, opened down to the wings, and on the roadster the bulkhead was moved back four inches to make the bonnet longer. In the interior, the XK140's walnut dashboard was replaced by one trimmed in leather  while thinner doors gave more interior space . On the early drophead coupés, an aluminium centre dash panel with an X pattern engraving was fitted which looked similar to the early 3.8 E-type although this was discontinued after June 1958. The standard engine, the same as fitted to the XK140, was the 3.4 litre DOHC Jaguar straight six rated at 180bhp at 5750rpm but most cars were fitted with the SE engine that had a modified cylinder head with larger exhaust valves rated at 210bhp at 5500rpm.  The suspension and chassis were also very similar to that on the XK140. Twin 1.75-inch SU HD6 carburettors were fitted and four-wheel Dunlop 12 inch disc brakes appeared for the first time although it was theoretically possible to order a car with drums. Either wire wheels or disc wheels could be specified. These were high performance, well appointed sports touring cars and could cope with long distances with alacrity.

This magnificent example was originally sold to New York Motors in July 1958 and then shipped onto California. It was returned to England in 1992 when an eight year long restoration project was begun. The body was built by Contour Autocraft minus the bonnet and boot; it is interesting to note that their present day cost for such a body is £50,000. The panels are correct in every detail as per the original specification as the original Jaguar jigs and patterns from Brown Lane were used. All trimming and upholstery was undertaken by MCT (Mic Turley), arguably the foremost UK Jaguar trimmer, again using original patterns from Jaguar themselves. MCT have won 'Car of the Day' for the last 12 years at the JDC Concourse d'Elegance.
The ground-up restoration was finally completed after meticulous attention to original detail and with the help of past JDC judges. It then went on to win JDC Concourse d'Elegance in 2000 and 2001 and was also a finalist in the Auto Glym competition of 2001. S831029 has also appeared on the Discovery Channel's 'A Car is Reborn' television series.

After winning the afore mentioned competitions, a number of sympathetic modifications were carried out to make it more driver-friendly. Power steering, electronic ignition and an electric cooling fan were added as well as highly effective Coopercraft brakes and a modern alternator. In addition, a stainless steel exhaust system was added with all original parts kept in case required.

Incredibly, a set of luggage and the original and complete tool kit are included - anyone who has attempted to source these bespoke cases will appreciate how difficult it can be!

Fully prepared and possibly one of the finest in the country, this XK150 Roadster represents many thousands of hours of effort as well as a keen eye for performance and style.
