In 1963 Mercedes-Benz launched the W113 range of sports cars designed by Paul Bracqa. This new range began with the 230SL and featured a beautifully proportioned sports body which had two comfortable seats. It was powered by a 2281cc, engine which produced 150bhp. This inline six-cylinder engine with multi-port fuel injection used a mechanical pump system adapted from the diesel motors. All were rear-wheel drive. They were also equipped with an independent rear suspension; a feature which greatly improved road handling over the earlier models. The engine featured fuel injection and could even be ordered with automatic transmission.
On offer today is a left hand drive, automatic example that sports a handsome blue coachwork and a tan interior; both in very good order. This car was originally exported to the USA and registered on 1st January 1967. It was later imported to the UK and registered on 1st June 2004. Since being imported, European headlights have been fitted as well as a new steering wheel to the correct pattern. The vendor states that this Mercedes-Benz has been kept in secure, humidity controlled parking since 2004 where it has been regularly started to keep everything well oiled. He also informs us that due to commitments abroad, only a few hundred miles have been added to the car since its arrival to the UK.
Accompanying the car is an owner's manual, parts catalogue, dealer list, service book and also an amount of spare correct matching material/cloth. We are assured that this SL Roadster will have a fresh MoT test certificate by the time of the sale.
These attractive "SL" sports cars were highly regarded when new and have remained sought after ever since the last models were built in 1971. With this and the ever increasing prices being asked for these motor cars in mind, this would appear to be an ideal opportunity to acquire an SL model at a reasonable price.
