The Lancia Aprilia was one of Vincenzo Lancia's last designs as he sadly passed away only one month prior to commencement of production in February 1937.  Designed in a wind tunnel, the all monocoque construction demonstrated a record low drag coefficient of only 0.47.  The specification included; four pillarless doors, independent suspension all around, hydraulic brakes, sliding pillar front suspension and trailing arm rear suspension. Power was by the jewel like 1,352cc, V4 engine and produced a car which, although not sold as a sports car, could and did out-perform and out-handle many of the sports cars of the day. Similar to the Augusta, the Aprilia was also built in France under licence and this version was known as the Ardennes.

Presented today is a terrific opportunity to acquire one of these wonderfully advanced, compact and lightweight pre-war VSCC eligible saloons.  Requiring restoration, this Aprilia has been dry stored and in the same family ownership for some 25 years. The vendor advises that there are some minor items missing that include headlamp reflectors, one headlamp glass, a couple of interior door handles and the dashboard clock. Mechanically, the Aprilia looks complete with the engine able to spin freely on the starter motor. The vendor is confident that with a little work and fresh fuel, the engine could be brought back to life. The upper coachwork presents well with the wings and boot lid appearing to be in very sound condition. The outer door skins look good with some attention needed to the lower frames and the doors having good panel gaps. The floors/footwells and sills show signs of earlier repairs; however, the floor pan under the rear seat looks completely solid as does the boot floor. The interior trim, although looking complete, would benefit from a re-trim. The Lancia sits on the correct (for Aprilia Ardennes) Fergat wheels with straight and dent free hubcaps.

This is an opportunity to own one of Vincenzo Lancia's great masterpieces. Once restored and with beautiful looks and surprising performance, this may be something a little different for those VSSC eligible events.
