Introduced in September 1933, the 3½ litre was the first Bentley model after Rolls-Royce's acquisition of Bentley Motors in 1931. Bentley only supplied the chassis, scuttle, radiator and grill while the customers chose their own coachbuilder to construct a body specifically to their own requirements. Many distributors had coachworks of their choice pre-built for immediate sale. The Bentleys of this era are known as 'Derby Bentleys' as they were built in the Rolls-Royce factory situated in Derby, England.

This Derby Bentley Special is owned by a respected enthusiast and collector. First registered on 13th November 1937, the car still bearing its original number plate, has undergone various transformations during the 75 years it has been on the road. A splendid history file accompanies this motor car with a large amount of invoices dating back to 1991 confirming the car took part in the VSCC time trial at Curborough on 1st May 1994. Photographic evidence is available for restoration work carried out and the owner at the time fastidiously hand wroting notes as he went although sadly not dating them. The current vendor has enjoyed immensely owning ELT999 and is sad to see her go, describing her as the nicest pre-war car he has driven. Supplied with a V5 registration document together with a full years' MoT test certificate, this 4¼ Derby Bentley Special really is special.
