Lot 382 - 1952 MG TD MkII
|Odometer reading||80,712 miles|
|Estimate||£15,000 - £18,000|
Following on from the successful MGTC, the TD arrived in 1949, and introduced some much needed post-war refinements. The TD now featured independent front suspension and rack and pinion steering which combined to improve the T-Series handling characteristics. The TD body still retained the 30's style body design but now had pressed steel wheels and was available in lefthand drive format for export customers. In 1951, a Mk. II TD entered production and introduce a more powerful 60bhp engine which offered much better performance. The MG TD had a curious style which was really a vintage body with some 1950s elements added on such as chrome bumpers and modern wheels. Despite this, the car sold extremely well and has an immensely strong following to this day.
This particular example was originally exported to the United States of America and was repatriated back in January 2010. Having never been registered in the UK, the import certificate is available and therefore registration within the European Community is quite straightforward. The current vendor has carried out some restoration work, the result of which is a splendid example offered for sale today. A number of items have been replaced, including the wooden floor, wiring loom, bumpers, hood and carpets; perhaps of even more relevance is that it is fitted with 'Andrex' shock absorbers, twin fuel pumps and 1½ inch carburettors. Finished in Almond Green with black trim this fine example is a highly usable and attractive 1950's sports car.
