The DeSoto make was founded by Walter Chrysler on August 4, 1928 and the announcement immediately attracted 500 motor car dealers who wanted to sell his cars. By the time the production was in full swing at the end of 1928, there were 1,500 agencies selling the 1929 Desoto Six. Demand rocketed. It was named after the 16th century Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto who discovered the Mississippi River and had covered more North American territory than any other early explorer.  In 1932, DeSoto recruited race car driver, Harry Hartz, for an astounding publicity stunt; he drove a DeSoto backwards across the USA, and Hartz peered his way across the continent through the rear window. People couldn't know at the time that this trip was a top-secret experiment in airflow; Chrysler engineers discovered that contemporary cars moved more efficiently through the air with the bodies reversed and this prompted the quest for an aerodynamic body that saved petrol and increased speed; the result of which was the 1934 DeSoto  Airflow. This design propelled DeSoto to 32 stock car records and put Walter Chrysler on the cover of Time Magazine. In 1935 the Airflow was replaced by the Airstream and sales nearly doubled. In 1936 DeSoto was given its own production facilities and sales climbed again. Then on the strength of a handsome 1937 re-styling, production more than doubled again to 81,775, moving DeSoto from 13th to 12th place in the industry. For the first time since 1933, DeSoto outsold Nash motorcars.

This handsome 1937 DeSoto Sedan has the 228cu.in, straight six engine with a three speed manual transmission and is reported as running well. The paintwork would benefit from reviving, a thorough machine polish may accomplish this. The interior is original and only requires a good cleaning. Imported from the state of Michigan, the original vendor states that it is rust-free with new braking system and original working dashboard gauges. The car comes with all the import and duty documentation and only requires slight restoration and modification for a United Kingdom MoT test certificate. It is also supplied with a certificate of authenticity by Marvel Studios confirming its involvement in the filming of Captain America- the First Avenger.
